Leadership Success - How To Make People Hear The Advice That You Give

You know as well as I do how frustrating it is when you are trying to give advice to someone and they won’t listen to a word you are saying. But because you are a leader you know the importance of being able to convey your advice, not only to those you are leading, but also to those who are your superiors. Advice is a funny thing because, if you are the one giving it, you think it’s the best advice in the world. However, the person you are trying to give it to doesn’t always see it as great advice.

So the question is, ‘How do you make someone listen to your advice?’

Samuel Taylor Coleridge once said, ‘Advice is like snow -- the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper in sinks into the mind.’

The answer isn’t always to try and ‘make’ someone listen to you. Sometimes as a leader, the best thing to do is to find ways to give your advice softly. Now this isn’t always an easy thing to do if you are a strong-willed, passionate leader, but as a leader your greatest asset will always be your people skills.

If you learn how to deal with people correctly, then you will be able to deliver your message in a way that will not only be appealing, but will effect people according to their own personality. By doing this, you’ll find that your advice will be accepted much more often, and will actually be implemented.

Of course, this may take some time depending on your own personality and willingness to change. But if you do begin to change your ways of giving advice you will see change much faster than you think. Don’t just be a leader, be a leader that impacts people to reach their full potential.
