37 days....

I stumbled across this blog. I think its worth checking out.

The question asked is - if you had 37 days to live what would you do? The explanation is touching and poignant.

I think, we loose our way in life. We get caught up in the everyday ordinariness of it all and loose perspective. We sweat the small stuff and forget what is important in life.

The Ship's Wheel

Where have our thoughts been?
Where are they going to?
Have you ever really thought?
Do they ever come back to you?

The calm of the storm comes.
When dream's empty vessel does sail.
When the mind's carrier fills.
The thoughts do scream and wail.

So empty your head!
Of dreams and questions all.
Please empty your head!
For you surely will fall.

Then it all comes back.
Back to the start again.
Back to the sorrow and guilt.
Back to the sorrow and pain.

Then the strength comes.
It arrives in force.
Feel the strength come.
Let it run its course.

Let the wheel spin.
Never look back.
Let the wheel spin.
The love will never lack.

You'll grow in pain.
You'll change and flow.
Let the wheel spin.
And time will show.

Let the wheel spin.
Never let go of pain.
Let the wheel spin.
Less you'll return again.

Its in the trees! Its coming!

Just heard Kate Bush's new single on the Ken Bruce show on BBC Radio 2. It was excellent. Hope her new album is as good. Its a shame she went into hiding for the past twelve years. We've all gotten older. I'm in my 30s now and she is 47! Ahh all our heroes are getting older. Its the inevitable march of time. Moby just turned 40 for example.

Oh well... 49 is supposed to be the new middle age. I like to think of myself as in middle youth ... Anyway - I don't like labels... I do like ladles though and especially when they are serving French onion soup. Yummers!!!...

Why do we do it to ourselves?

We stay up late when we are tired. We skip meals when we are hungry. We work when we should rest. We are intolerant when we should be patient. We eat sweets when we should eat fruit. We drink beer when we should drink water. We breath in smoke when we should breath in air. We cause conflict instead of peace. We write blogs when we are supposed to work....

Why cant we be more like cats?

Goals!

The most important thing you can do for yourself is define YOUR goals.

We are all different people with differing priorities and wishes. Stephen Covey talks a lot about this. Begin with the End in Mind - a chapter in 7 habits of Highly Effective People - is about setting long-term goals based on "true-north principles". Covey recommends to formulate a "personal mission statement" to document one's perception of one's own purpose in life. He sees visualization as an important tool to develop this. He also deals with organizational mission statements, which he claims to be more effective if developed and supported by all members of an organization, rather than being prescribed.

I have found if you do not have a clear goal in mind there are plenty of people out there quite willing to tell you what it should be.

To that end here is an interesting article about personal mission statements.

Interesting ...

Controversial film-maker Michael Moore is planning to make a hard-hitting documentary based on Us President George W. Bush's handling of the Hurricane Katrina rescue operation. Moore grabbed international acclaim with his scathing 2004 film Fahrenheit 9/11, which studied Bush's handling of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The Oscar winner is now "seriously considering" documenting the catastrophe in America's Gulf Coast region. He tells the New York Daily News, "There is much to be said and done about the man-made annihilation of New Orleans, caused not by a hurricane but by the very specific decisions made by the Bush administration in the past four and a half years. Do not listen to anyone who says we can discuss all this later. No, we can't. Our country is in an immediate state of vulnerability. More hurricanes, wars, and other disasters are on the way, and a lazy bunch of self-satisfied lunatics are still running the show."

A String of Foxes....

Hi all..
Well we're all back, safe and sound in Norn Iron after a weekend in Yorkshire. My brother is now a married man and there's another lady out there with a surname of Galbraith. It was a really nice weekend and congrats to David and Jen again...

Its funny. For being so close to England one could really see the difference in the cultures between here and there. One question one could raise is why do you have to wear whites when playing cricket on a Sunday afternoon in Leeds? Would a track suit not do?

And there are only a certain few out there that know what a "String of foxes" refers to.

I'll leave you on this note. Visit York .. its rather nice ....
