Secret #113 Time Management for Women

As we all know, men can be so high maintenance.

I mean, a real relationship with a real man can interrupt your schedule and take up so much of your personal time and energy.

What a pain!

So how can you, as a woman, get the emotional comfort of a relationship with a man without the emotional drain and time hassles of actually having a relationship with a real man?

To all women everywhere, I say look no further!

You don't need a real man. You only need 25% of a man (and not the 25% most men think). And think of all the time, money, and energy you'll save with 25% man. He doesn't make any messes, talk back, or leave the toilet seat up—and he's always ready to cuddle.

Get your 25% man now... all you have to do is decipher the language of the country where they sell these.

* Note to women who are already in a relationship with a real man: No trade-ins allowed.

John Edwards Has A Healthcare Plan!

John Edwards has a great to plan to give families coverage at an affordable price, they will pay less and get more choices, along with businesses and other employers will find it cheaper and easier to insure their workers.

How does he plan to do this?

  • Requiring businesses and other employers to either cover their employees or help finance their health insurance.
  • Making insurance affordable by creating new tax credits, expanding Medicaid and SCHIP, reforming insurance laws, and taking innovative steps to contain health care costs.
  • Creating regional "Health Care Markets" to let every American share the bargaining power to purchase an affordable, high-quality health plan, increase choices among insurance plans, and cut costs for businesses offering insurance.

Once these steps have been taken, requiring all American residents to get insurance. Securing universal healthcare for every American will require the active involvement of millions of Americans.

Life is like excavating......

......you have to dig, dig, dig, until you find what you want!
Don't settle.
Don't dilute yourself with "justification" for what you do. That's simply a lie.
Don't be angry and unforgiving - it just takes a toll on you physically and mentally.
Don't think of problems as such. Make them "challenges".

Do show kindness to someone today.
Do remember we only have this very moment - live it fully.
Do remember happiness is a choice.
Do MOVE your body and feed it nutrition - it is the only place you have to live.

If you push away the negativity it will diminish.
If you get in the habit of positive thoughts and actions it will pull positive things toward you.

If you think no one really cares - think again! I do.
Do CREATE a wonderful day!

*Secret 112 What's Most Important Right Now?

We may never actually say that we can do it all, but the way most of us are living our lives—one would think that we believe we really can do it all.

The truth is you can't—and shouldn't even try—to do it all.

Think about it. Not everything screaming for your time, attention, and energy is worth doing.

Instead of trying to do it all, why not focus on doing that which is truly most important?

What would be "most important" right now for you?

when the unexpected happens, just handle it!

You could have knocked me over with a feather when on my husband's one day off, he said, "You go to so much work making your tacos, let's invite dad and mom over for dinner."

First of all, last week he said, "I've had enough of them for a while". Secondly, the irony of it is to me, if I work sooooo hard to cook - then let's invite two people over so you have to cook more food, chop more side dishes, set a fancier table, and make sure the house is cleaned up (oh yes, and more dishes!).

Perhaps it was a compliment, and I am now ready for company in half an hour. He now is saying, "Hmmmmm. Kind of wished I hadn't asked them over!" :)

"Yeah", I thought, "Could have ran naked in the house!" Oh well.

When he brought up the idea I told him - "It's your day off-whatever you want to do is fine with me." I meant it. Marriage is a give and take partnership and he holds up his end of the bargain - so I am too. Anyway, life is fleeting and I do love my in-laws (now that they love me after being nasty to me 15 out of 20 years). That was their problem.

So whenever a problem or change in plans arise - take a breath and ACCEPT what it is.
There is another way - fight it and have a fight! But if it's reasonable, keep the peace with love and a positive response, and it will come back to you! I promise.

Now it's taco time.

Easy to get caught up in all the negativity!

BUT DON'T DO IT...... Life is just too short to waste a moment being a sour ball. We all have problems. I am no exception. If it's not a CASH problem, health problem, family problem, car problem, work problem, then its a neighbor problem, etc. etc. etc. So what is your choice when problems arrive? I tried being miserable. It sucked, so I gave it up. Even when I slip a bit and allow all the negativity that is presented in the media to affect me -
it's not for long. I can't stand feeling horrible and so I remember to practice thinking in positive terms and remembering what mama used to tell me. "This too shall pass. Life is about change. Just when you think you can't take any more, something changes."
Take a breath. Practice finding the GOOD in something. Remember, it's your life, don't let life steal it from you. Start now. Take a breath and when you exhale, let all the problems fly out your fingertips. Do it again. YOU WILL BE IN CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE AND YOUR RESPONSE TO LIFE, if you JUST PRACTICE being in charge!

Not pie in the sky. The truth. I face the challenge of aging and it could suck....not happening in my world. I am still glad just to be alive and kicking. Change your day by changing your thinking - NO MATTER what CHALLENGE you face.
YOU CAN DO IT!

Mitt Romney On Healthcare

"The 45 million who don't have insurance – if they get sick they go to the emergency room for care. And that's not ideal care, as you know, it's not the preventative care they need, doesn't get them the prescription drugs to stave off an acute condition developing from a chronic condition."

And why do they use the emergency room? Because they don't have insurance, and they know that the ER can not turn them down. And who pays for this? It's called a big write off at the end of the year, and then the hospitals charge more for care the next year to make up the losses. And who pays for that? Well, my friends, YOU!!! The insurance premiums that you pay take a big hike, and you get to pay more.

Something screws up at the hospital, and a law suit is filed... the doctor and hospital settles out of court, and who pays for that? YOU!!! The malpractice insurance then increases for the physician who very kindly passes those charges on to the consumer. Don't get me wrong, I strongly believe in law suits for gross misconduct, but for some of the silly stuff that we see?

And just how does Mitt Romney plan on giving Americans more affordable healthcare?
  • Deregulate State Markets.
  • Fix The Tax Code.
  • Reform The Medical Liability System.
  • Promote Innovation In Medicaid.
  • Bring Health Care Into The 21st Century.

And what has Romney said about he is going to accomplish this?

  1. Allow people to purchase private insurance, not government insurance. People must be responsible for themselves!
  2. No government-managed healthcare and no increase in taxes.
  3. No more free rides.

Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass) did it for his state of Massachusetts, but can he have success in lowering the hospital bill of Americans all over the United States? Good Luck Mitt!!!

This is the first article in a series on what the condidates think about healthcare. I have sent an email to EVERY major candidate, and I will be posting articles as I get permission to use information from their websites.

Some of the above posted information was used by permission from: http://www.mittromney.com/Issues/healthcare BIG THANKS to the Mitt Romney campaign for their prompt answer to my request.

Secret 111: Get Off the Treadmill of Good Intentions

Important Note Before You Read This Post:
At the very end of this post is a link to a FREE eight page PDF download that will give you the nuts and bolts of how you can move from the treadmill of good intentions to the track of action and life change.

About ten years ago, I bought my first treadmill. Boy, did I feel great about myself. Just getting that thing down to the basement was a workout in itself—I think I lost half a pound! Once I got that thing settled in its place, I beamed with pride… and just knew that in a short time I’d be in shape… or at least in better shape.

Yet, I confess to you that though I have over a decade of treadmill ownership under my belt, my belt has not gotten any smaller. I thought about taking the treadmill back and trading it in for a new and improved model. Obviously, this one wasn’t working.

But I think I finally figured out what’s wrong. It seems you must actually get on the treadmill three to five times a week for about 20-30 minutes each time if you want any benefits. Go figure. Oh yeah, and they also tell me you should plug the treadmill in and turn it on (sounds kind of dangerous if you ask me).

The Treadmill of Good Intentions and YOU
Laugh at me all you want. But I’m willing to bet a rarely used ten-year-old treadmill that you’re frighteningly more like me than you care to admit. Yep, my treadmill story is for YOU—especially if you’ve ever had the good intentions to…
  • read the Bible through in a year… but didn’t make it through the second week of January

  • create and stick to a budget… but ran up more credit card debt

  • lose weight… and then set a personal record in chocolate eating

  • have a better marriage… and then actually argued with your spouse about how (Okay, that could be just me on that one.)

  • be a more patient parent… and then yelled at your kids more than ever

  • exercise regularly… and then used your treadmill as a clothes hanger

  • bought a self-help book… but didn’t help yourself enough to crack it open

Just like me and my treadmill—you bought the books, took notes on the sermon, went to the Bible study, and even signed up for the seminar, but nothing really changed in the key areas of your life.

My question to you—before we go any further—is this: Are you sick enough of the treadmill of good intentions that you’re really ready to move to the track of personal growth?

To Get Off the Treadmill, You Need to Get On Track
If you really want to move off the treadmill of good intentions and onto the track of personal growth, I contend that, like a train, you must be careful to run on two rails. Of course, I’m not saying these are the only two keys to personal growth. All I’m saying is that the two rails I am about to explore with you are foundational if you really want to quit dinking around and start growing.

What are the two rails? To finish this training session, GO HERE.

Please feel free to share this post (just click the image of the envelope below) and the FREE eight page PDF download with as many people as you like. It's great for personal use or for use in small groups. I'm thrilled to be a missionary of encouragement and equipping to you! Thanks reading this blog!

Restraint Use

I recently read about a nursing home who was fined $20,000 for unnessarily restraining patients. This brought to my mind the question, what types of restraints are being used now and are they really more safe?

When I first starting out in nursing, we used belts quite a few times. I have heard of lots of stories and even seen a few "hangings" where patients slipped out of the chair or bed and hung themselves with those belts. Sure glad that those things are of the past!

What about wrist restraints? It's not like we're restraining ALL of the patient, but those can be so misused also! I've seen patients tied to the bed with such force that their hands are blue... Not Good! I've also seen very good uses of these type of restraints, and yes, I do believe that these are much better than some of the other restraints. You might also try the mits that give the patient full range of motion, but keep them from picking at IV lines, foley catheters, or feeding tubes.

One of the best ideas that I have seen in a long time is a tent type of restraint. The patient is in a "tent" which has zippers and a nylon screen. This allows the patient to be more free in the tent, but doesn't necessarily "tie" the patient to the bed! The can move alot more and therefore it doesn't seem to bother them as much. This is a lifesaver on a unit with traumatic brain injuries!

What are some of your ideas for less restraints?

*Secret 110 Drink Coffee... Lots of It!

The caffeinated kind. No joke.

Think about it. It's difficult to manage your time well when you're tired.

A cup or two—especially in the morning—can make a significant difference in your life!

And don't forget about Coffee's other amazing benefits:

1. Coffee is cheaper than other drugs that stimulate you (like meth)... not to mention.. it's legal (unlike meth).

2. Recent scientific research actually shows the benefits of drinking coffee.

3. Drinking coffee makes you thinner, better looking, and wealthier. OK this is a lie... but woudln't it be cool if it were true?

Happy New Year - Random acts of Kindness

Hello Readers,

As you may have noticed, I have been very quiet of late. A lot has been going on in the background and I am confident 2008 will be an exciting year for Self Help For Lazy People.

I was driving home yesterday amidst a flood caused by a thaw of snow. We came to a big enough pool of water that stretch the entire width of the road. We watched as the car ahead of us passed safely through the water and then to my surprise the car stopped and waited. The driver waited to make sure we passed through the water safely.

It made me think. Would I have stopped for the driver behind me (there were no drivers behind me in this case). I thought to myself probably not!

I thanked the driver by flashing my headlights as we completed are traverse of the water. It was an act of kindness that also reminded me to be kind to others.

So don't forget dear readers! Your actions affect others! If you can be kind to others your actions can have a domino effect as the person who received the kindness then, in turn, is inspired to help others.

What acts of kindness have inspired you this holidays season?

Secret #109 A Safe Life Isn't Necessarily a Great Life

Some words to live by in 2008...
